A rewarding hike up Mount Psiloritis

Description:
Mount Psiloritis is the highest mountain of Crete and has been a physical and cultural reference point since ancient time. Located in the centre of the island, it is the place where Zeus was raised and where rebels found refuge throughout numerous battles and wars, and it is home to people and wildlife alike. This tour takes us to the top of the mountain, walking through bare landscapes of a natural park. We start early in the morning and arrive at the starting point of the hiking path around 9.30. The path starts at 1700m and ends at 2456m, a 750m ascent! The walk normally lasts 5 – 6 hours; 3,5 hours going up and another 2,5 hours going down. During our hike in one of UNESCO‘s Geoparks, expect to see unique landscapes, dominated by special rock formations, endemic plants and Cretan birds of prey. This truly is a tour where participants experience the authentic and isolated landscapes and nature of Crete.
